Dear Darkness,
In case you were wondering, yes, I do see you. I’ve known you’ve been lurking in the Rodney Rhoda Taylor enjoys a serene afternoon in the backyard, savoring a Cosmopolitan and their book, "A Life in Letters." shadows for some time now. Don’t think this hasn’t gone unnoticed, as it hasn’t. With each passing day you’ve slowly been creeping back into my life, like a cat, no, more like a vampire stalking its prey ready to pounce at any moment. While I’ve always wanted a stalker,

Dear New Years Resolutions
Well, it’s that time of year again, which I’m sure is your favorite season as its the magical time of year when people bursting with confidence (and probably too much eggnog or other holiday beverages) make their grand pronouncements about how they are going to change their lives and become a more fabulous, sparkling version of themselves. I call it the “Resolution Bandwagon,” especially since so many people make these yearly declarations. Don’t take offense to this, but I’ve

Dear 2026,
I’d like to take this time, if I may, and say it’s a pleasure meeting you. I know we are just beginning our relationship and have the next 360 days to get acquainted; however, I thought you’d like to know a few things about your predecessors before you get started on whatever you may bring us; they were chaotic, tear inducing, and were less than stelar entities. In fact, the best way to describe them would be to say this: they were the type of dinner guest who constantly insu

Dear 2025
There’re lots that could be said about you, but the politest, and easiest thing one can say is you did indeed keep life rather interesting for the past 365 days. You didn’t tip toe in, weary to get things started. No, you jumped right in and started your reign with a reality show host once again being sworn into the office of the presidency, except this isn’t a reality show, this is real life! What was that all about? Nothing like making your presence known. Of course, in al

Holiday Traditions III
Ugly Sweaters : This fun little custom sprang from those wonderful, odd, and often over- decorated sweaters that were knitted by a beloved grandmother or aunt. The recipients of such wonderful gifts probably tucked away their delightful present in a drawer never to be seen again. That was until someone decided to through a party and invite their guests to wear these forgotten sweaters. It’s now become a holiday custom with clothing companies creating their own ugly sweaters.

Holiday traditions II
To spoil the season even more, here are other Holiday Traditions that have come into existence over the years. Poinsettias: Have no historical connection to the holiday as it wasn’t discovered until the plant was found in Mexico by the American Ambassador to the country in 1825. He was fond of its red and green colors. When he left his ambassadorship and returned to his home, he brought the plant with him and began to cultivate it in his green house. Proud of his efforts, he

Day 13 of holiday movie marathon.
Tonight’s, masterpiece is about the true spirit of Christmas: petty neighborly, Christmas decorating competition and lots and lots of bling. Because honestly… isn’t the season really about who can install the loudest, most garish, and brightest lights on the block? If your house can’t be seen from space, are you even putting in the effort? Tonight’s movie is: Deck the Halls.

Day 12 of holiday movie marathon.
I'm now into the Silly holiday movies No more of those heartfelt holiday romances. No more pining over the hot, bearded guy splitting wood, or getting wood, or never mind. No slow-motion ornament hanging. No “we met over gingerbread and now we’re soulmates.” I mean really, does romance ever really work out that way during the holiday season? I think not. At least with silly holiday movies you know what you get, nothing really serious . Tonight’s theme? Chaos. Testosterone. An

Day 11 of the holiday movie marathon
I’ve reached my official limit of “girl goes to small town, meets bearded man who owns a bakery/lumber mill/reindeer farm, falls in love in 72 hours.” Not that there is anything wrong with a hot rugged bearded man who wears flannel and has a hairy chest. I’m all for those types of men, but I can’t watch one more cookie-cutter romantic piece of blah. I just can’t. So tonight, we course-correct ourselves and head into he interesting waters of holiday chaos: silly Christmas movi

Day 9, holiday movie marathon
Romantic comedies at Christmas—who can resist them, right? Well it’s beginning to look a lot like I can. So far, and I’ve only watched three movies, they all have the same recycled plot line: a boy, a girl, lots of snow, the customary misunderstandings, and a declaration of love under twinkling lights. I’m ready to puke. Crossing my fingers this one isn’t just as cliché-fest. I mean, the couple broke up for a reason—like she stole his last gingerbread cookie. Whatever it was,

Day 8, of Holiday Movie Marathon
There's no way tonight’s movie, about a woman pretending to be Santa, ends with her falling for the charming, conveniently single, hot, and sexy hotel owner—that would just be too wildly obvious (and yet, where's my popcorn?). MY Secret Santa.

This week is all about holiday romance, yes still causes me to gag a bit. And don’t worry, I’m not diving into Hallmark territory (even though I bet these movies are just as delightfully cheesy). Tonight’s movie, Holidate!

Classic Christmas Movies
Uplifting, heartwarming stories of inspiration and hope have been around since "Santa Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer Claus," the first Christmas movie premiered in 1898. Since then, countless films and animated specials have entertained audiences throughout the holiday season. Hallmark alone has produced over 300 of these movies. Their stories; however, do follow familiar patterns: a city woman returns home for the holidays, rekindles romance with her high school sweetheart, a
