Dear 2026,

I’d like to take this time, if I may, and say it’s a pleasure meeting you. I know we are just

beginning our relationship and have the next 360 days to get acquainted; however, I thought you’d like to know a few things about your predecessors before you get started on whatever you may bring us; they were chaotic, tear inducing, and were less than stelar entities. In fact, the best way to describe them would be to say this: they were the type of dinner guest who constantly insulted, antagonized, and more importantly, overstayed their welcome while at the same time had the self-indulgent belief that their host was more than grateful for their attendance. I can assure you that was not the case. If I may, I’d like to take this time and provide you with a brief update on what has transpired before your arrival. The 20s brought us a worldwide pandemic that forced us to stay indoors to survive. At the beginning of 2021 we had the Capitol Hill riots, which were the direct result of the orange one and his followers attempting to overthrow the results of the 2020 election. In 2022 we witnessed the slap that was heard around the world; Will Smith and Cris Rock. Who knew the Academy Awards would turn into a contact sport! Russia attacked Ukraine in an un-provoked move. The US Supreme Court, stacked with the orange one’s appointees, removed a woman’s right to control her body. Evidently white men know what is best for everyone. Then the most tragic event of all took place; Camilla became queen of England, a title that should have been Diana’s, upon the passing of the world’s much beloved queen, Elizabeth II. 2023 showed us that the Middle East was still a tender box waiting to explode when Hamas invaded and kidnapped several Israeli citizens. Then in 2024 the world saw the re-election of the orange one, an event that has puzzled many as he was charged with rape, falsifying business records, mishandling of national security documents, and attempting to overturn the 2020 election. Somehow even with these illegal activities against him, some people still thought he was the best one to become president. This will go down in history as one of the biggest puzzles ever. Not to be outdone by the calamities of 2024, 2025 showed the world what happens when a criminal takes office; a tariff war erupted, prices skyrocketed, and America’s world standing plunged to the lowest it’s ever been. And now only two days into our burgeoning relationship, the orange one decides to invade a foreign country, kidnap their president and then threatens to invade one of the most peaceful nations on the planet, Greenland! Can you ease up on the craziness a bit? I ask because it would be nice if we can get better acquainted before you start showing us how wild you can be. Since you’ve decided to kick things off with this nonsense, I figure I can go ahead and make a few requests from you, if I may: It would be greatly appreciated if the hateful rhetoric toward the LGBTQ, Latino, Hispanic, Native American, African American’s, Jewish and well, any community that isn’t white male, come to an end. I think we’ve lived with enough hate towards these communities. Also, how about an end to school shootings and well, on second thought, how about an end to all mass shootings actually?  While you’re at it, how about stronger gun control as well. I know this is going to upset the 2^nd Amendment supporters, but shouldn’t we be more interested in saving lives instead of bowing down to the gun manufacturers? Also, I know this is a novel idea, but how about the press getting back on track and upholding the freedom of the press they were granted in the constitution? They seem to be more interested in appeasing the orange one and the republican party than honoring their constitutional granted freedom of reporting the facts, even if they are against the orange one. It would also be nice if California could escape the bad luck they have been facing in the last couple of years. I mean haven’t they had enough with the fires, flooding, and Megan Markle headlines! And since I’m asking how about a cure for cancer, AIDS, dementia, and well, any of the other countless diseases that plague the world? Of course, with the orange one cancelling funding for research institutes, I realize this request may be a hard one to grant, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. Also, with this year bringing about the mid-term elections, would it be possible for the Democrats to once again gain control of both houses? I ask as this would be the only way to remedy the situation with the orange one being in power. If that can’t be, would it be possible for a few republicans who are willing to stand against their party and uphold the constitution, to be elected?  The American people would greatly benefit from this as they would be able to legally remove the orange one from office. Of course, this technically could happen now if Republicans would actually adhere to the constitution, but that’s another story.

I realize I’ve asked a lot, so I shall end things here as I don’t want to continue to ask to much from you, especially since our relationship is just beginning.

p.s. okay, I do have one more really important request. The Devil Wears Prada II is due this year, please, I beg of you, please make this as fabulous as the first one. Another dud like the musical is not what we need.
